								<description>Nampa, Idaho,  Idaho Equine Hospital welcomes veterinary students for externships lasting 1&#8211;4 weeks, with most students electing to participate for two weeks. Preference is given to third- and fourth-year veterinary students. On-site housing is provided. 
 Externs gain hands-on exposure to a diverse equine caseload while working closely with our staff veterinarians during both regular hours and after-hours emergency coverage. Clinical experience may include: 
 
 
 Lameness and sports medicine 
 
 
 Surgery 
 
 
 Internal medicine workups 
 
 
 Reproduction 
 
 
 Dentistry 
 
 
 Neonatal care 
 
 Emergency/Critical Care 
 
 Externs also assist intern veterinarians and technicians with treatments and emergency cases after hours, providing valuable practical experience in a fast-paced hospital setting. This externship offers an excellent opportunity for students to become familiar with the Idaho Equine Hospital Internship Program (please see our AAEP listing or website for additional details).

								<description>Hortonville, Wisconsin,  Great Lakes Equine is a 5 doctor, exclusively equine practice located in Northeastern Wisconsin. Our average caseload is about 25-50 patients per week per veterinarian. We have a 14 stall hospital with 2 designated treatment rooms, knockdown stall (surgical suite) onsite laboratory and indoor arena. We see patients both in hospital and in the field. Our caseload is comprised of general practice / preventative care, lameness and sports medicine, routine surgery, reproduction, and internal medicine cases. 
 Our externship program runs March through October, with on-site housing provided.&#xa0; Externships begin on Mondays and are available for a minimum of five days to a maximum of three weeks.&#xa0; Externs are expected to assist doctors and technicians with the daily operations of our hospital.&#xa0; Externs will be assigned daily to one of our staff doctors. Doctors will go over procedures and diagnostic techniques of the cases that are seen that day. &#xa0;As the schedule permits, the externs will be scheduled with a variety of doctors to gain a broad learning experience. Externs are scheduled Monday through Friday from 8am until the last appointment or hospital case is seen. Contact information can be left for participation in emergency cases that come in after hours.&#xa0; Hands on experience is common though it is dependent on the experience level and aptitude of the student.

								<description>Amissville, Virginia,  Equine Reproduction Concepts, LLC (ERC) offers a program whereby veterinary students are able to come to our facility and be exposed to various techniques and procedures dealing with stallion and mare reproductive management.&#xa0; Positions are available every year from March 15th through July and can be scheduled in 2 or 4 week increments.&#xa0; Scheduling is structured with the intention that only a single participant is present at any one time in order to maximize theoretical and practical exposure.&#xa0; The goal of this program is for participants to gain experience and a working knowledge of general and advanced equine reproductive management.&#xa0; Please send a letter of interest and resume/CV to info@equinereproduction.com . Involvement: 
 Exposure will include reproductive management of mare utilizing palpation/ultrasonography, hormonal treatments, uterine infusions and lavages, cutlures, cytologies and biopsies, artificial insemination with fresh, cooled, and frozen semen, embryo recovery and transfer.&#xa0; stallion procedures consist of semen collection, evaluation, and processing for immediate insemination, cooling, or freezing, reproductive evaluations, and stallion handling.&#xa0; Participants will gain practical experience in palpation/ultrasonography, artificial insemination, semen collection, evaluation and processing for immediate insemination or cooling and stallion handling.&#xa0; Periodic sit-down sessions will occur wherby practitioners at ERC will discuss certain techniques and/or cases with the externs. 
 Duties/Responsibilites: 
 Externs are expected to assist with normal management practices at ERC.&#xa0; They will be involved with administering treatments, teasing mares, handling stallions, assisting practitioners with procedures such as preparing mares for uterine lavages, embryo recoveries, surgeries, etc.&#xa0; Other responsibilities will included taking records during US exams, holding jump mares, preparing for semen collections, helping process semen for shipment.&#xa0; Upon coming to ERC, a work schedule will be created for each participant.&#xa0; The schedule will be based on when help is needed and what times or days are available for the extern.&#xa0; A typical schedule will consist of being at the clinic for 10-12 hours per day 5 1/2 days per week. n/a</description>

 - Recognize and identify oral pathology 
 - Learn appropriate charting and numbering techniques
