 Externs work directly alongside our emergency doctors and specialty clinicians, participating in triage, diagnostics, treatment planning, procedures, and patient monitoring in a fast-paced environment. You will gain real-world experience managing urgent and complex cases from the moment they walk in the door. Our hospital sees an average of 35 patients per day and upwards of 60 patients per day on the weekend, making us an excellent place to gain extensive experience not only with cats and dogs, but with exotic species as well. 
 &#xa0; 
 What Students Can Expect 
 
 Active participation in patient workups for simple to complex cases such as Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Congestive Heart Failure, Urinary obstructions with AKI, etc.  
 Exposure to advanced diagnostics &#38; procedures including hands-on surgical experience with procedures such as abdominal exploratory surgery, mass removal, cystotomy, splenectomy, limb amputation, wound repair, intestinal resection and anastamosis, etc. 
 &#xa0;Specialty service exposure including Oncology and Exotic Animal Medicine 
 Supportive feedback and case discussions from a group of people who love teaching!&#xa0;
