We are an equine surgery and sports medicine practice adding on to our team. Currently, we are seeking a veterinary technician or an assistant for a full-time position.
Job Duties:
Assisting with surgical procedures
Administering and monitoring anesthesia and assisting during the recovery period
Properly cleaning and providing as needed maintenance to equipment such as the autoclave, ventilator, endoscopes, surgical instruments, dental float, etc.
Restraining patients for exams, treatments, and procedures
Intravenous catheter placement
Dosage calculation
Detailed and accurate record keeping including patient treatment records, anesthesia records, and controlled substance logs
Patient care including administering treatments, bandage changes, and husbandry
Maintaining cleanliness and upkeep of stock throughout all areas of the hospital
Collection, packaging, and shipment of specimens to outside labs
Assisting with diagnostic procedures such as radiography, ultrasound, and endoscopy
Preference will be given to those with a willingness to learn, positive attitude, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and who seeks career growth.
High School Diploma with 1-3 years on the job experience in a veterinary setting
OR
Graduated from an AVMA Accredited Veterinary Technician Program (Preferred) AND Are a Registered Veterinary Technician in the State of Iowa (Preferred) OR Have taken and passed the VTNE and are eligible to become an RVT in Iowa (Preferred)
Experience: Equine Handling - 1 year minimum, 3 years preferred
Midwest Equine Surgery and Sports Medicine is an equine only, single doctor private practice in central Iowa.
We are a new, rapidly growing hospital with the DVM being both DACVS and DACVSMR.
Our predominant cases are sports medicine appointments and orthopedic surgery.
Currently, we are seeking a veterinary technician or assistant for a full-time position.
Having experience in or being able to learn equine general anesthesia is a must.
