The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the national not-for-profit association established in 1863 & representing over 100,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services, is seeking an AssistantDirector to join our Education and Research Division team. Structured to work for its members, AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership and for the profession. Our mission is to lead the profession by advocating for our members and advancing the science and practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal and human health.
The Assistant Director will work with staff, volunteer leadership and stakeholders to propose, develop and implement AVMA policies and programs concerning the accreditation of schools and colleges offering a degree in veterinary technology. They will be responsible for conducting site visits, documentation, and recommendations working closely with AVMA governance entities including the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) and other governance entities in the execution of their duties. They will also be responsible for executing association policies, objectives and programs concerning veterinary education and accreditation. Approximately 40% travel is required, this position may work remotely.

To be successful in this role, you must be highly collaborative and passionate about AVMA’s mission and veterinary education. Additional qualifications include:
BS/BA degree is required, must be a graduate of an AVMA or CVMA accredited veterinary technology program or possess a DVM/VMD degree
Minimum of 7 years of related work experience with some clinical practice experience preferred
Possess knowledge of, or be willing to learn, educational accreditation practices
Working knowledge of veterinary technician education and utilization; undergraduate teaching experience in a CVTEA- accredited veterinary technology highly desired
Awareness of local, state and national issues regarding veterinarians and veterinary technicians
Strong involvement with organized veterinary medicine highly desirable
Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written & verbal)
Must be able to interact and effectively communicate both with members of the scientific and non-scientific community
Able to organize, plan and manage group meetings
Must be able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines, functioning well autonomously and as a team member
