The Animal Caretaker is specifically trained to perform animal husbandry duties at the farm facilities.  The primary focus of the Animal Caretaker is the feeding and care of the test animals as well as cleaning the stalls, cages and feeders.  The Animal Caretaker assists the Study Director/Clinical Investigator and Attending Veterinarian with physical examinations, weights and/or occasional necropsies as needed.  He/she informs the person in charge of concerns related to animal health, problems with equipment and current status of certain supplies (e.g. hay, feed).  The Animal Caretaker documents daily care of test animals accurately and thoroughly on appropriate forms according to the study protocol and ETCR’s SOP’s.  He/she is expected to handle the animals in a safe and humane manner.
